Contrast the digital representation of an object or concept with the “natural” object. What is gained? What is lost?
When things are represented digitally they are no longer what they started off as but rather a translation of that thing. There are lots of benefits to being able to digitize something, it makes it last longer, it can be easily shared and spread to other people, and it’s much more efficient to have a digital version of somthing than the real version. However, there are aspects lost when difitizing somehting as well, primarily the human interaction. You’re loosing the actual interaction with the thing, the depth of a real object or concept. For example when you read a real book you can feel the pages, hold the weight of it in your hand, smell the paper. But when you real from an e-reader you’re simply reading a flat digital object. There’s less human interaction with the object.
